Policy and Procedures Handbook
  • This handbook was developed as part of coursework in MEDT 6461, MEDT 6463, and MEDT 6465. The handbook was created to help establish policies by which to run the media center and procedures that guide the day to day running of a school library media center.
  • The handbook communicates written legal and ethical policies. This supports AASL Standard 1.1, Efficient and Ethical Information Seeking Behavior.
  • The handbook pronounces that the media center has a flexible and open schedule. The supports AASL Standard 1.3, Access to Information.
  • The handbook presents procedures for Inter Library Loans. Parts of this handbook will be shared as part of a county media policy handbook. The handbook also lists many professional associations to which the media specialist belongs. This supports AASL Standard 3.1, Connection with Library Community.
  • The handbook also communicates collaboration with others thus establishing the media specialist as an instructional partner. This supports AASL Standard 3.2, Instructional Partner.
  • The handbook was created from consulting information found in professional journals and other existing media center handbooks. This supports AASL Standard 3.3, Educational Leader.
  • The handbook establishes that data will be used in order to collaboratively plan with teaches. This supports AASL Standard 4.3, Comprehensive and Collaborative Strategic Planning and Assessment.
  • Creating a policies and procedures handbook gave me a deeper understanding of the content areas and professional education for the implementation of transformational systemic change. This supports the UWG COE Conceptual Framework descriptor #8 Knowledge.
  • The handbook provides procedures for removing barriers that impede learning. This supports the UWG COE Conceptual Framework descriptor #9 Proactive.
  • The handbook demonstrated that I am a decision maker. This supports the UWG COE Conceptual Framework descriptor #1, Decision Maker.
  • The UWG COE Conceptual Framework descriptor #5, Collaborative, is reflected in the handbook. The handbook provides ideas for ways in which stakeholders can become involved in the media program.
  • The handbook also demonstrates leadership with the inclusion of policies such as copyright and calendar of media event. This reflect the UWG COE Conceptual Framework descriptor #2 Leaders.
  • Leadership and Professional growth is included in the handbook. This reflects the UWG COE Conceptual Framework #3 Life Long Learners.
  • The selection policy is included in the handbook. This reflects descriptor #10, Reflective of the UWG COE Conceptual Framework. This policy indicates that the media specialist demonstrates critical thinking skills in the diagnosis and prescription for transformational systemic change.
